Peru is trying to supply the region with ISDB STBs

The Peruvian Vice-Minister of Communications, Jorge Cuba Hidalgo, is trying to turn the City of Tacna into an ISDB set-top-boxes development center. Cuba stated that, thanks to its strategic location, Tacna is much more appealing for Brazilian entrepreneurs. The idea is to set up development facilities in the Free Zone of Tacna and from there, supply all the countries of the region which have adopted the Brazilian-Japanese standard.
"All economic, tax-related, communicational, and human resources-related advantages the region can offer are expected to be analyzed so that the foreign entrepreneurs can see it as a possibility. With this task, Tacna would turn into the main industrial center of Latin America and thousands of working posts would be generated", the representative of the Ministry of Transport and Communications sated.
The official disclosed in advance that as from March 2010, the state-owned channel, TV Peru, will start a digital TV pilot project and later, private channels will follow the same steps. The analog blackout is expected to take place in 2030.
