Une recorded 100 thousand IPTV subscribers

Last January, the Colombian operator Une recorded 100 thousand IPTV subscribers thus becoming the leaders of this technology in Latin America. According to its executives' forecasts, 180 thousand IPTV clients would be recorded by 2010 end. Additionally, Une records about 700 thousand analog cable subscribers to migrate to DVB-C and some cases of IPTV hybrids.
The figure was informally disclosed by some executives at Andinalink, in the city of Cartagena. 20 thousand subscribers out of the total base are located in the capital city of Bogotá and the rest in Medellín, headquarters of the company. Une utilizes Orca's middleware and Verimatrix' CAS.
Une had closed 2008 with 30 thousand IPTV subscribers and expected to reach 2009 end with 150 thousand users, but the economic crisis that affected Colombia reduced such objectives. Despite the aforementioned, the figure is higher than the one forecasted by skeptic observers of the market in different forums.
IPTV subscribers are growing, and the company wants to offer its cable subscribers the same interactive services, for which ends the operator is analyzing the possibility to install hybrid STBs with IPTV for VOD and other applications. At present, Une renders VOD services provided by the aggregator DLA, and is trying to add Warner Bros.
