Une has already recorded 120,000 IPTV subscribers in Colombia

The telephony and cable operator Une. incumbent in the Colombian city of Medellín, has already added 120,000 IPTV subscribers to its 800,000 Pay-TV users. IPTV services are growing at a pace of 10,000 subscribers on a monthly basis. 190,000 IPTV SBTs have been installed at an average of about 1.5 STBs per household.
Une utilizes Orca platform with Verimatrix CAS and Sagem STBs. 90,000 out of the 120,000 subscribers are located in the city of Medellín where the telecommunications and TV company - a subsidiary of the state-owned public services EPM company - holds its original base. Une records over 600,000 analog cable clients in the aforementioned city; it is the second national cable TV operator of Colombia behind Telmex and has already expanded over other regions of the country.
In Bogotá, about 20,000 IPTV subscribers have already been added. Through its subsidiary Edatel, some additional 10,000 IPTV subscribers are added in the coast area. And after the acquisition of the cable operator Cali, Visión Satélite, will launch its services in Barranquilla, one of the main Colombian Caribbean cities.
Une is also participating in offers launched by the telephone companies Emcali (Cali) and ETB (Bogotá) in search for a strategic partner. Telefónica and Telmex, with their own IPTV projects, are also interested in both companies.
In this new stage, Une is fostering the development of new interactive content with the purpose of differentiating itself from competitors. After the inclusion of Warner Bros. VOD segment recorded a 32% growth between the first quarters of 2010 and 2009. Une utilizes Bitband's VOD platform.
